Dr. Martinez’ professional background has focused on multicultural competencies, ethnic/gender identity development, college student development, and career/life transitions for older adults.  Areas of concentrated work have been in relaxation/stress management, communication/social skill building, decision-making, and self-empowerment. Her work has also included consulting on organizational development processes with a focus on organizational systems, building effective teams and developing organizational culture that reflects the values and vision of its work.

In therapy Dr. Martinez works from a psychoanalytic framework that promotes insight and motivation for clients to work on positive life changes.  Her therapeutic work also involves approaches in cognitive behavioral therapy, humanistic/existential psychology, and social learning. Publications

I’am the staff psychiatrist at the Counseling Center, and serve as a consultant to the other mental health professionals for psychiatric evaluations and medication issues. I’ve been with the university since 2006, but with the first two years at the Student Health Center/Mental Health Clinic. I am board-certified in psychiatry and am committed to providing students with the highest standard of care. I treat a wide range of psychiatric disorders with an expertise in the treatment of anxiety disorders, including social anxiety, generalized anxiety and panic disorder. 

I am currently on the volunteer faculty of the Department of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at UCI, functioning as an Assistant Clinical Professor of Psychiatry. I am actively involved in the UCI psychiatry residency training program where I teach the core curriculum in Anxiety Disorders and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

I am an active member of several professional organizations, including the Anxiety Disorders Association of American (ADAA), the Academy of Cognitive Therapy (ACT), the American Psychiatric Association (APA) and its district branch, the Orange County Psychiatric Society (OCPS).
